Design: Big Monocle

Ricoh, which you probably know as an office equipment company, has a very cutting-edge research division in Silicon Valley. They get ideas from academic research, technological advances, and trends, and look for possible applications, such as remote medical imaging. They wanted us to write articles that would attract grad students to their internship program, so we interviewed the Director of R&D and several past interns. We had never heard of their imaging technologies, and knew nothing about the physics of light, so this was a great learning experience. We interviewed the scientists together, and it took both of us to catch and interpret all their ideas.
