Critique, the magazine of graphic design thinking

An early feature for Critique magazine, this article grew out of my boss’s need to get me to educate myself about graphic design (I’d been an illustrator, and had no design training). The basic idea of the piece was to define the design standards for book covers, magazine covers, logos, and so on, and give our readers the idea that all they had to do was make one element “wrong” to create a standout concept.
