This was one of the columns I wrote between 2003 and 2007 for STEP inside design. Sometimes they gave me a theme to work with. In this case, it was cinematic art direction, and in that year the most art-directed film of all was Harry P., v.3. So who made me a movie critic? I found that my experience with symbolism and composition in design applied about as well to a movie as they did to other media. Either that, or talking smack just comes naturally.
